Maria Rogers

Interviewed by Samantha L

On June 20th, I had the pleasure of going on a bus trip through the mountains of Denali State Park. On that bus trip, I met a very nice Australian lady named Maria Rogers. She visited here sixteen years ago and just had to come again.
Maria said that the view is much better now than it was then. When asked what she has done here so far, she told me that they’ve (she’s with her husband) been hiking some and sight seeing. “We’ve seen moose, caribou, grizzly bears, black bears, wolves, foxes, elk, deer, golden eagles and sheep.” She explained.  She said, ”The wolves were the rarest, but the bear and her cubs were my favorite.” She also told me all the places she’s been; China, Ireland, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the Caribeans, Mexico, Whales, Figi, Tahiti, British Columbia and more. That’s a lot of places! Obviously I had to ask how they could afford all that and what they did for a living and she said,” We married young, our children are grown and we don’t live expensively.” She also told me that her husband used to be a fisherman and now he owns a prawn (shrimp) fishing boat. I hope that one day I get to travel to all those places and see as much as she has.
